College acceptance odds calculator
No fake percentages. Enter your GPA, optional scores, and state — get honest Reach / Target / Likely bands across twenty-five schools, with in-state splits accounted for where they change everything.
Pick your state (and tweak the GPA) to see your bands. Everything calculates locally — nothing is sent anywhere.
How to read your results
- Likely — your academic profile sits above the school's typical admit, and the base rate itself is forgiving. Still apply with care; "likely" is not "guaranteed."
- Target — your profile reads as typical for admitted students. The decision will turn on rigor, essays, and context, exactly as it does for everyone else in that pool.
- Reach — the rate is low and/or your academics sit below the typical band. Apply if it's a school you love, with eyes open and no more than a couple of these on the list.
Residency notes: at UT Austin, Texas residents near the very top of their class are admitted by law (the auto-admit cutoff, recently around the top 5–6%). At UNC Chapel Hill the in-state rate is roughly 40% against single digits out-of-state. The calculator folds those published splits in when you pick your state.
The model, in the open
Each school starts at its most-recent publicly reported acceptance rate. Your GPA moves it: within the school's typical admitted band ×0.85, at the top ×1.35, below the band ×0.4. An SAT/ACT inside the school's middle 50% adds ×1.1, above it ×1.25. Residency multiplies by each school's published in-state advantage. The product is capped at 95% and floored at 1%, then bucketed: ≥50% Likely, 18–50% Target, <18% Reach. Every number in that chain is on the school's page — nothing is hidden, nothing is magic.
Rates and bands: approximate, most-recent publicly reported (generally fall 2024 entering class). Confirm on each school's Common Data Set.
